I’m Michael Ricks — a neuroscience researcher and clinical neuromodulation specialist based in Illinois.

I currently serve as TMS Lead at a combined neurology/psychiatry practice, where I manage all aspects of a transcranial magnetic stimulation program: patient treatment, protocol development, prior authorization, provider education, and clinical operations across multiple deep TMS coil systems.

My work sits at the intersection of clinical practice and translational neuroscience. I’m particularly focused on precision neuromodulation — the idea that brain stimulation protocols should be informed by individual neuroanatomy and connectivity, not one-size-fits-all targeting. This includes off-label protocol development, evidence synthesis for emerging indications, and building the clinical infrastructure that makes advanced neuromodulation accessible outside of academic medical centers.

I hold a B.S. in Neuroscience with a specialization in Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience from The Ohio State University, and I’m working toward doctoral research in precision neuromodulation.

This site is where I publish clinical reviews, practical implementation guides, and essays on brain stimulation, neuroscience, and the work of closing the gap between research and practice.
